NASH COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - An Eastern Carolina sheriff says that he’s continuing to push the norms in pursuit of school safety by issuing breaching shotguns to all school resource officers.
Nash County Sheriff Keith Stone made the announcement today that his school resource officers have completed their training on breaching shotguns, intended to keep students safe by gaining access to locked doors during emergencies.
Commonly reserved for SWAT Teams, we’re told ballistic breaching uses a specialized shotgun and ammunition to bypass a door’s lock, deadbolt, and hinges, as the rounds are designed to break through them without ricocheting.
The sheriff’s office says that in a life-threatening situation, when time is critical and safety is on the line, breaching needs to be fast, effective,
