LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Thousands of basketball fans attending an exhibition game between the Cards and the Kansas Jayhawks Friday night got a close-up look at upgrades to Main Street.
Right-turning lanes off the 2nd Street Bridge have been reduced to one lane.
And pedestrians have a shorter, safer crosswalk.
“This is a $5.4 million project, which is a complete overhaul of this section of the project,” Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 5 spokesperson Morgan Woodrum said. “This phase focuses on various infrastructure upgrades, such as signal upgrades, crosswalk enhancements, and the creation of a parking-protected bike lane.”
The “Main Remade” project is converting portions of Main Street into a two-way street.
The upgrades were motivated by safety.
