A University of Tennessee at Chattanooga student was the victim of an attempted robbery early Friday morning, the UTC Police Department says.

Just before 2:00am, the student reported an unknown man approached them near the parking lot adjacent to Yellow Deli and attempted to take their bag.

Police say after a brief interaction, the suspect fled the area.

"The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 25 to 50 years old, about 5'5" tall, with very short hair," UTC PD stated. "He was last seen wearing a dark long-sleeve shirt, dark pants, and dark shoes."

The incident remains under investigation.
