Every student at Lead Academy in Greenville went home with a free book Oct. 24.
The public charter school, located on Mauldin Road near Conestee Park, held a book giveaway as part of its fourth annual Lead Reads Week. Students in kindergarten through 8th grade had the opportunity to select a free book to take home. Nearly 400 books were distributed during this year’s event.
Curtis Baker, principal of Lead Academy, said the book giveaway is an opportunity for students to experience the fun of reading. Lead Academy is classified as a Title 2 school where at least 40% of students are identified as low-income.
