Thousands of Target workers in the Twin Cities are facing an anxious, 5-day wait to learn whether they will keep their jobs.
The retailer announced via internal memo on Thursday that it intends to cut 1,800 corporate roles, of which 1,000 will be in the form of layoffs, with the rest the elimination of open positions.
The majority of the layoffs are expected to fall at Target's headquarters in downtown Minneapolis, where more than 7,000 staff members are currently employed.
But rather than let staff know their fates immediately, the memo from current COO and soon-to-be-CEO Michael Fiddelke said they would not learn their employment status until Tuesday.
