As the federal government shutdown continues its fourth week, air travel delays are becoming a recurring issue at both of Houston's major airports.

Air traffic controller staffing shortages halted air travel in Houston twice this week. A temporary ground stop was issued at Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and Hobby Airport (HOU) on Tuesday evening, and Bush experienced another ground stop Thursday night.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) noted on its website Friday morning that ground stops or delays were possible at both major Houston airports during the afternoon. There was a ground delay at Bush as of 3:20 p.m.
