Pittsburgh International Airport received a $3.3 million grant from the Hillman Family Foundation to support what will become its plant-covered outdoor spaces at the new terminal.

“The Hillman grant will pay for landscaped greenspace between the new garage and the new terminal as well as support the landscaped build out of the north airside and north landside terraces,” airport spokesperson Bob Kerlik said.

The new $1.7 billion terminal, set to open later this fall, will have four terraces, two before the security area and two after.

“You will be surrounded by nature and able to access it with no membership — this is open to everybody,” Airport CEO Christina Cassotis said Friday during the monthly Allegheny County Airport Authority meeting.
