The Delhi government has formalised its decision to allow women to work night shifts across shops and commercial establishments in the national capital.

First announced in July this year, the notification to amend provisions under the Delhi Shops and Establishments Act, 1954 has now been formally issued by the Lieutenant Governor.

Under the new rules, all shops, except liquor outlets, may employ women at night but must comply with security conditions such as ensuring adequate security, transport, and compliance with labour laws. However, they must have the women employees' consent before assigning them to night shifts.

Employers must also ensure CCTV coverage through the night shift and maintain video records for at least a month, which must also be kept readily available when the need
