BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Federal workers across Alabama are facing another payday without pay as the government shutdown continues, prompting local organizations to offer support to those struggling to make ends meet.
The Jefferson County Family Resource Center has seen an increase in families seeking food assistance during its regular monthly distribution at the Family Court House.
“The line is backed up almost all the way to the railroad tracks. That tells me, especially on (Magic City) classic weekend, that not only are the families that we see every month, but people who just need food,” said Carrie Buntain, executive director of the Jefferson County Family Resource Center.
The organization distributes food boxes on the fourth Friday of each month and has noticed more familie
