LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky has one of the highest rates of teen crash deaths in the country.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, car crashes are the leading cause of death for teenagers in the United States. The agency stated that for every one mile driven, teenagers are three times more likely to be involved in a fatal crash than adults.
A study by NHTSA revealed that 41 young Kentucky drivers died in car crashes in 2023. They also had a 138% involvement rate in fatal crashes, which was the highest in the nation.
“That’s a statistic that can change,” said a Lexington driving instructor.
