MT. STERLING, Ky. (WKYT) - More than a dozen softball teams gathered at Easy Walker Park Saturday to honor 13-year-old Kennedi McWhorter , who was murdered along with her mother, Kayla Blake , last month in their Morehead home.
The “Play for Kennedi” tournament brought together 14-and-under teams from across Kentucky and beyond, with players wearing purple throughout the day in McWhorter’s memory.
“Even though she’s not there, we’re still playing like she is there,” said Kennedi’s teammate Emma Brown.
Tournament raises funds for family
USSSA Softball Director Jesse Martin organized the tournament after feeling called to help the family.
“We just feel like we were put on this earth, me and my wife, to help other people that need our help,” Martin said.
