(WKBN) -- SNAP benefits for October were paid before the government shutdown, but many are worried about what will happen if the shutdown continues.

46,000 households in Mahoning County will lose their SNAP benefits in November if the federal government does not reach an agreement to end the shutdown by Nov. 1.

"It is going to be a gloom and doom situation right now, but I'm hopeful and I'm optimistic, hoping that they will settle this before Nov. 1. I think we're about seven or eight days out, but if they do lose those benefits, they will not have food stamps for the month of November," said Mahoning County Jobs and Family Services Director Audrey Morales.

Moraels says her staff will continue to accept SNAP applications, but no benefits will be given out until after the shutdown.
