Decatur Police launched a focused effort to address speeding on one of the city's busiest roads. The initiative, known as the "Beltline Blitz," was a response to numerous community complaints about speeding and accidents on the Beltline.
The operation took place over three weeks, during which officers conducted more than 500 traffic stops, issued over 200 citations, and made four DUI arrests. The Beltline, with a speed limit of 45 mph, saw increased patrols throughout the day.
"If we don't enforce traffic infractions then it creates a culture, it creates a standard," said Eric Stisher, deputy chief of the Decatur Police Department. "So, once we start enforcing it changes that culture, makes it more safer for drivers and a more safer community."
