BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio (WTRF) — Five hundred Belmont County residents will be contacted as prospective jurors for the upcoming double murder trial of Andrew Isaac Griffin.
Jury selection in the case, scheduled to begin in March, is expected to take a week or more, according to court officials.
Griffin is charged with the murders of Tom and Angela Strussion of Belmont, Ohio, and with setting fire to their home. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.
During a hearing this week, the defense asked the court to refer to the first phase of the trial as “the trial phase” rather than “the guilt phase.” Judge Chris Berhalter granted that motion.
The defense also filed a motion to dismiss the death penalty components of the case, citing “constitutional and international law violations.” Ju
