People are still swiping, but OMNY is overtaking the MetroCard, as the MTA sets post-COVID ridership records.
“By the way, yesterday, that record 4.56 million riders — 90% tap and ride, 90% tapping ride. Only 10% MetroCard," MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber said Friday. "So, you know, we're making progress.”
The subway recorded its 3 billionth tap on Friday. But the MTA is not letting the turnstile hit the MetroCard on the way out.
A celebration with iconic New York foods like a “Metro” pizza from Stretch Pizza, cookies from Zabar's, Carvel ice cream and Golden Crust patties.
“Those of you who have dreamed about putting your face in a giant Metro card, cut out, guess what?" Chief Customer Officer Shanifah Rieara said. "Your dream has come true.”
