Devastated co-workers of Joshua Qiyuk, a 21-year-old Inuk man who was found stabbed to death Wednesday at Meadow Park Place in Ottawa’s east end, say the killing of the young cook is incomprehensible.

“He was a great kid. He was like a son to me,” said Patrick Garland, the veteran Ottawa chef who owns Absinthe, a French bistro-style restaurant in Hintonburg.

“I just can’t understand it. I can’t get my head around it. It’s just so horrible.”

Qiyuk, a graduate of Algonquin College’s culinary program, had worked in Absinthe’s kitchen for more than two years, cooking with Garland and the restaurant’s sous chef.
