The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office is investigating a fatal e-bike collision involving a Monmouth County police officer.

The Atlantic Highlands Police Department officer was driving a marked police vehicle when he collided with a cyclist riding an e-bike in Middletown on Oct. 10.

The cyclist was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. He was pronounced dead on Oct. 19.

The incident occurred at around 1 p.m. on Route 36 in the area of Orchard Avenue, authorities said.

The identities of the adult male victim and the officer have not yet been released. No other details were released Friday as the office was still investigating the accident.

Under state law, the attorney general’s office is required to investigate all police-involved fatalities.
