GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Halloween is right around the corner, but it may come with spooky prices.

“Since last year, the prices are up about 10 to 15 cents per candy bar, which is a big increase,” Greenville resident Steven Mueller says.

According to the Associated Press, cocoa prices have nearly doubled since the start of 2024, as rising temperatures have damaged crops in West Africa, which supplies 70 percent of the world’s cocoa.

Many Greenville residents buying sweets this year have noticed the bitter hike in costs.

“We’re seeing about 90 cents per candy bar for full size, and last year it was around 82 cents, the year before 77 cents, so we’re seeing a big increase that way,” Mueller says.
