It has not always been a smooth ride for Ross Atkins in his soon to be 10-year run as Blue Jays general manager.
There have been some bitter disappointments, some promising seasons unfulfilled, a pair of disastrous post-season appearances and at least two significant rebuilds in that tenure.
Even with the constant of Vlad Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette as the superstars in waiting early in his tenure, there were times when it was difficult to ascertain exactly what direction they were headed.
But here they are, finally, it feels like, at a point of vindication for this at-times beleaguered front office. A World Series berth, the Jays first in 32 years, is that much more delightful given that it caught most external observers (and surely some within the Jays fiefdom) by surprise.
