HARTFORD, Conn. — Comptroller Sean Scanlon made an announcement Thursday that was heard across all corners of the state.
Connecticut will distribute $10 million to 160 school districts to help more than 7,300 paraeducators cover the cost of health insurance.
In a state release, Scanlon acknowledged that despite the critical role paraeducators play in schools, many struggle to stay in the field and afford necessities such as housing and healthcare.
“This just isn’t right,” Scanlon said. “Through this program we are supporting paraeducators, helping our cities and towns keep more of them in the classroom and making sure our kids get the quality education they deserve.”
Scanlon announced that two programs will offer financial support to classroom support staff on high-deductible plans.
