ANN ARBOR, MI — To Nobel laureate and women’s education activist Malal Yousafzai, education was her guiding light.

Yousafzai, 28, is a women’s sports fan but not a morning person. Also, she’s a coffee person.

“I do need caffeine to help me wake up, and chai is my source of energy,” Yousafzai said.

That’s just a few of the things attendees learned when Yousafzai spoke at the spoke at the Michigan Union, 530 S. State St., on Friday, Oct. 24 as part of a tour to promote her new memoir “Finding My Way,” released Tuesday, Oct. 21.

More than 250 people attended the event, hosted by the UM Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy. Those in attendance included Yousafzai’s husband Asser Malik and University of Michigan Interim President Domenico Grasso.
