A forensic report has confirmed that the devastating bus fire near Thaiyat village in Jaisalmer , which claimed 26 lives, was caused by a short circuit in the vehicle’s air-conditioning system, officials said on Friday.

Jaisalmer SP Abhishek Shivhare said, “The FSL report has been received, and the technical details in the report make it clear that there was a short circuit in the AC, which led to the fire.”

He said that the duct in the bus, used for fanning cold air, started filling up with smoke which started spreading among passengers leading them to have difficulty in breathing. “Carbon monoxide spread through the bus and the people started feeling suffocated and couldn’t move quickly.
