From a first-round exit in 2022, a play-in loss in 2023 and a quarterfinal loss in 2024, Calhoun senior Drew Lennon remembers the sting of each as a member of the Colts boys soccer team.

He’s not alone. As one of 20 seniors for Calhoun, Lennon entered Friday’s quarterfinal against New Hyde Park determined to have a different result. After 80 minutes, the verdict was in: something special just might be brewing in Merrick.

Lennon scored the first two goals for second-seeded Calhoun in a dominant 6-0 home win over No. 10 New Hyde Park in the Nassau Class AA quarterfinal round. Calhoun (15-0-1) advances to face No. 3 South Side — a battle between two of Nassau’s three undefeated teams, along with Locust Valley — at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Farmingdale State in the Nassau Class AA semifinals.
