GRETNA, Neb. —

Gretna High School and Gretna East are teaming up during their rivalry football game to support food-insecure families through an inaugural food drive before kickoff.

Fans of both the Griffins and the Dragons are encouraged to support the initiative. All of the pantry items, as well as money made from concessions and donations, will go to the district's backpack program, which sends students home with pantry staples at the end of each week.

"Everybody comes out, they want to see a great game of football and then support this program," Holly Radke, executive director of the Gretna Public Schools Foundation, said.

The program currently serves about 75 district families from pre-school through high school.
