US President Donald Trump says he does not forget when people "say bad" about him, in a renewed warning to Australia's ambassador, Kevin Rudd.

Earlier this week, after a meeting with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, the president was asked about old tweets from Mr Rudd, who he appeared not to know.

"You said bad?" Mr Trump asked the ambassador, who was sitting across the cabinet table from him.

Mr Rudd, who had previously been scathing of the president in a series of now-deleted social media posts , told Mr Trump the tweets were posted before he assumed the role of ambassador.

"I don't like you either, and I probably never will," Mr Trump replied, causing laughter from those assembled.
