VIRGINIA — Going into the playoffs of the Pan Continental Championships this weekend, Team Shuster has a spot in the semifinals and only one defeat on its ledger.

The rink of Shuster (of Superior), Chris Plys (Duluth), Colin Hufman (St. Paul) and Matt Hamilton (McFarland, Wisconsin), playing as Team USA, won its first six matches at the eight-team international event at Iron Trail Motors Event Center. On Friday, Canada got the better of the Americans, 6-5 in 11 ends, though both teams were easily qualified for the four-team playoffs.

The event serves as a qualifier for the World Championships, to take place in the former (2002) and future (2034) Olympic curling rink in Ogden, Utah in the spring of 2026. The field this week covers the entire globe minus Europe.
