Judy Boyd has spent the last two months sifting through three generations of someone else’s memories.
Boxes of yellowed photographs, old clothing, tools and long-forgotten heirlooms tell the story of her late husband’s family — three generations of Boyds who lived and died under the same roof.
The Ross duplex was built by her late husband’s grandfather, then passed to her father-in-law, then to her husband, Herman. When Herman died two months ago, the property fell into her hands.
“This is not my legacy to continue,” Ms. Boyd said. “I gave him what he wanted — to die in his own bed in his family home. He lived in the same house for 83 years until he died. I could never get him to move. His roots were just too deep.”
