MURRIETA — Trailing early to its city rival on Friday night, Vista Murrieta leaned on its senior general to rally the troops, and then a fresh-faced soldier helped the Broncos win the Big West Conference-North Division battle.

With the Broncos trailing by 14 points in the second quarter, linebacker Brennan Martinez ignited a lethargic Vista Murrieta sideline with a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown, and his second interception return for a score as the game ended was the exclamation point for the Broncos, who snapped a four-game losing streak to Murrieta Valley with a 42-35 victory.
