Authorities are investigating a Friday afternoon shooting in Newark’s South Ward after gunfire erupted in a neighborhood, officials said.
According to preliminary information, the incident occurred around 4:10 p.m. near the intersection of Chancellor Avenue and Leslie Street.
Responding officers found shell casings at the scene, confirming that a shooting had taken place.
The Newark Police Crime Scene Unit was called to assist in the investigation.
A thorough search of the area revealed no victims, but police requested that local hospitals remain on alert for possible walk-in gunshot patients.
The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived, and no arrests have been reported.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
