WESH 2's award-winning First Warning Weather team is monitoring Tropical Storm Melissa, which is nearly stationary over the Caribbean Sea on Saturday, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The NHC says Melissa is getting stronger with maximum sustained winds now at 70 mph and a minimum central pressure of 982 mb.

Melissa is about 160 miles south-southeast of Kingston, Jamaica, according to the NHC.

Rapid intensification is forecast to begin over the next 24 hours. Melissa is forecast to become a hurricane shortly and a major hurricane by Sunday.
