CORTLAND, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- As Halloween approaches, the 1890 House Museum in Cortland draws interest for its historical significance and rumored paranormal activity.
Originally known as the Chester Wickwire mansion, the 1890 House Museum has been open to the public for 50 years, showcasing life during the industrial revolution, when manufacturing was prominent in Cortland.
"Chester makes his fortune on the wire industry," explained Jane Hunter, highlighting Wickwire's role in pioneering wire cloth production.
Scott Gay, who grew up in Cortland, expressed his fascination with the mansion, saying, "You would walk back and forth and think, 'Gee, I wonder what it looks like in the house there.'"
