Research shows that residents of rural America face more challenges when trying to access healthcare than urban dwelling people. A little-told story, however, is how immigrants access healthcare in these rural areas.
Dr. Yingying Zeng is a professor of social work at the University of Georgia. She recently published a review of existing studies on healthcare access for immigrant people living in rural America. Her research sets out to find what the field of social work already knows about the barriers to healthcare for these communities—as well as topics she says scientists need to study more.
Dr. Zeng sat down with WUGA’s Emma Auer to discuss her results.
