From North Dakota to Minnesota to all across the country, last Saturday’s No Kings rallies were uplifting and necessary. People are afraid of the walls tumbling down on our democracy, and they came out to try to save it.

In Fargo, the rally was inspiring. With their clever and meaningful signs and chants, about 5,000 people gathered in a powerful show of unity and determination.

“Our president is overreaching his power by doing unconstitutional things,” Andrea Huseth of Fargo told me. “Congress isn’t doing anything. There’s a lack of accountability. We have to do something.”

“We’re watching the failure of the American experiment in real time,” Cadie Craddock of Hawley, Minn., told me. “Living under a wannabe dictator is devastating and embarrassing. There’s a lot of value in community.
