CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — A Cartersville family's desperate plea to police prevented what could have been a tragedy at the world's busiest airport on Monday.
Billy Joe Cagle's relatives rushed to the Cartersville Police Department to report that their family member was schizophrenic, off his medication and at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport with a weapon, according to Clayton County arrest warrants obtained by 11Alive.
"Ultimately, they're going to know if something's not right with a family member, something seems off," said Cartersville Police Department Captain Greg Sparacio. "The fact that they wanted to get him help and look out for the safety of others is instrumental in this."
