At the Holkar Stadium on Saturday, a King reigned supreme for Australia. Leg spinner Alana King, who had been bowling like a dream in the last couple of matches without getting the deserved rewards for her spells, spun a web around South Africa in Indore in a top-of-the-table clash that was reduced to a one-sided affair.
King’s stunning 7-over spell resulted in seven South African wickets, as she registered the best figures in the history of the ICC Women’s World Cup (7/18). South Africa, who came into the match flying high on a run of five straight wins, were brought back down to earth as they were bowled out for 97 in 24 hours. In the run chase, Australia had an early wobble but cantered past the finish line with seven wickets and a whopping 199 balls to spare.
