UPDATE: The "substantial" water leak in Copperhill earlier this week appears to have been caused by an older, compromised pipe, Mayor Greg Barker tells Local 3.

The section of piping in question undergoes "considerable pressure" and includes a 90-degree angle, which may have led to the failure.

"After several attempts using conventional repair methods, the leak could not be resolved, so a contractor with the appropriate expertise and tools was brought in to address the situation," Barker stated.

City Hall temporarily closed Wednesday as staff assisted with delivering packaged water to residents without service.

While the leak affected fewer than ten customers, the city says the water line serving that area carries a high volume.
