As he became one of the first civilians to walk through the colorful — but short — passage connecting Pittsburgh International Airport’s new landside terminal with its gates, Tim Haney reflected on how much things were about to change.
During his time stationed at the airport with the Allegheny County Police Department, he said he and his co-workers would “chariot race” maintenance carts through the half-mile service tunnels that have connected the landside and airside buildings for the past three decades.
“If someone saw us and said, ‘Call the police!’, we’d say, ‘We are the police,’” he said, grinning.
Memories aside, though, the new layout was a big improvement, he said.
