SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — The remains of a United States Navy Ensign killed near Yap Island over the Pacific Ocean during World War II has finally returned to Salt Lake City, where he was born and raised.

Howard A. Holding was only 22 years old when died in 1944.

Military officials were unable to locate his body at the time, which started an eight-decade-long wait for Holding's family to get closure. About 81 years later, Holding's family gathered at the Salt Lake City Cemetery in October, as they laid Holding to rest.
