With their team polishing off a 56-6 thrashing of UCLA , a group of Indiana students had only one thing on their minds — a school more than 500 miles away.

In the waning moments of the No. 2 Hoosiers’ 50-point win on Saturday, Oct. 25, shirtless fans in the Indiana student section at Memorial Stadium began chanting, “We Want Bama!” as their team improved to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in Big Ten play.

For years, the three-word cry was often said in jest, with Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide dynasty standing as an insurmountable obstacle for all but a select handful of programs across the country. Fans that said it earnestly often regretted it, with Alabama usually handing them a lopsided loss.
