BLOUNT COUNTY, Ala. —

Loyd Arrington, a former Blount County sheriff appointed by Gov. Bob Riley in 2009, has died, according to an announcement made by the sheriff's office Friday morning.

Current Sheriff Mark Moon shared on social media that Arrington served the county as sheriff for 10 years, contributing to a lifetime in law enforcement.

Sheriff Moon said, "I will always consider Sheriff Arrington a great mentor and will never forget the many lessons I learned from his leadership."
