The City of South Perth has announced its newest tactic to encourage residents to be more responsible pet owners.
Registration fees for some pets will be waived this financial year.
The city’s pet registrations renewals are due October 31, but this year it will waive the fee for lifetime registrations for sterilised dogs and cats.
One-year registrations for unsterilised dogs will also be waived to encourage owners to have them sterilised in the upcoming year. Charges will apply for unsterilised dogs for three-year or lifetime registrations.
In WA, it is required that dogs over the age of three months are microchipped and registered. Cats over six months old must be microchipped, sterilised and registered with their local government.
