DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam in which a caller falsely claims to be Officer Mitchell with the sheriff’s office.

The caller tells residents they have warrants for their arrest and instructs them to pay money to freeze the warrants. Officials say the caller is not affiliated with the sheriff’s office and is attempting to defraud residents.

“Please do not give this scammer any money,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “The sheriff’s office will never ask you to pay to stop a warrant from being issued.”

Residents are urged to inform family members who may not use social media about the scam.
