Mifflin County senior Carter Smith won his second consecutive District 6 Class 3A cross country championship Saturday, covering the Indian Valley Middle School course in 15:14,90.

That marks Smith’s fastest time of the season and is significantly swifter than the 15:30.80 he posted winning the Mid-Penn Conference Championships at Big Spring two weeks ago.

Smith will defend his 3A state championship title next Saturday at Hersheypark. Smith’s gold medal time of last year was 15:41.0.

Theo Oppermann of State College was second in 15:19.9.

His teammate, Luke Bradbury, was third in 15:24.60

Mifflin’s Reese Cubbison and Hoyt Rodenbaugh were fourth and fifth, respectively.

But State College runners Thomas Ruffing, Dexter Walker and Kyle Fritzsche placed seventh, ninth and 10th to nail down
