COLUMBIA, S.C. — Saturday marked National Drug Take Back Day, an event organized by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration to provide people with a safe and convenient way to dispose of expired, unused, and unwanted prescription medications.
Lexington Medical Center was among the participating locations.
"If it's used by the wrong individual or gets into the hands of the wrong individual, it can have devastating consequences,” said Dr. Collin Tully with Lexington Medical Center.
Dr. Tully said that once medications are dropped off, they’re collected for safe disposal.
“Once we have it, it'll go to the DEA for pickup and proper discard,” he said.
