A man is dead after his ATV rolled over while he was scouting for deer hunting season in Rumford, Maine, on Friday afternoon.

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife says 78-year-old Jeffrey Lang was driving a Yamaha 450 Grizzly on a steep hill in the woods near Wyman Hill Road around 12:30 p.m. when the ATV rolled, NBC10 Boston affiliate News Center Maine reports.

Lang became trapped beneath the vehicle. His wife ran to get help, according to the department, and a nearby resident called 911, but Lang was pronounced dead on scene, News Center Maine reports.

Officials say the steep and uneven terrain appears to be the primary factor in the deadly crash, but an investigation is ongoing.
