As four-day Chhath Puja celebrations kicked off on Saturday, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) said it has allocated Rs 40,000 per ward to step up lighting arrangements at the ghats where devotees offer prayers. The Capital has a total of 250 wards.
Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh, while inspecting Chhath Ghats in Shalimar Bagh and Pitampura, said that the initiative aims to ensure that the devotees, especially women and children, feel safe and comfortable during the evening and night prayers.
Emphasising upon the “robust arrangements for cleanliness, lighting, fogging, drainage, and waste management at all ghats,” he urged the devotees to avoid use of plastic during celebrations and cooperate with the MCD in maintaining cleanliness at the ghats.
