Eighth-seeded Cherokee, No. 20 in the NJ.com Top 20, claimed a 1-0 win in penalties over ninth-seeded Cinnaminson in the first round of the South Jersey Coaches’ Cup in Marlton.
Cherokee (10-4-2) won the shootout 7-6.
Goalie Cole Butler had four saves in net for Cherokee.
The result snapped a five-game winning streak for Cinnaminson (10-4-2).
Cherokee will play top-seeded St. Augustine, No. 2 in the NJ.com Top 20, in the second round on Monday.
