MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The surge in law enforcement in Memphis has caused thousands of traffic citations to flood local courts.
The Memphis Safe Task Force data portal shows there have been roughly 700 to 800 traffic stops per day in Memphis since the task force became operational a few weeks ago. Those numbers represent the number of traffic stops made by all law enforcement, including Memphis Safe Task Force officers, Memphis Police officers, Shelby County deputies, and others.
Since the beginning of September, the data shows that those officers have issued nearly 11,000 citations.
City court handles traffic violations within the City of Memphis Charter, like speeding or parking tickets. But General Sessions handles violations of state law and anything addressed by the Tennessee Highway Pat
