FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — New details have been released in the crash that killed three E.E. Smith High School students earlier this month, according to WNCN .
The crash happened on Oct. 8 just before 7:30 p.m. when a Honda Civic with four occupants struck a utility pole and a tree on Rosehill Road. Three passengers 18-year-old Jai’Hyon Elliott, 17-year-old Trevor Merritt, and 17-year-old Nicholas Williams died at the scene. All three were students and football players at E.E. Smith High School, WNCN said.
The driver, 21-year-old Dymond Nekiya Monroe, was hospitalized in critical condition. Fayetteville police said Tuesday they filed three counts of involuntary manslaughter against Monroe.
