GIRARD, Ohio (WKBN) - Cardinal Mooney outlasted Poland, 2-1, to claim the Division IV District Championship during boys high school tournament action on Saturday night.
The Cardinals, who have now won six straight games, jumped out in front with both goals coming in the first half.
Cardinals Donovan Whetstone and Dimitri Zoumis both scored in the first half of the win. Poland's Michael Hostel scored the Bulldog's lone goal in the loss.
With the win, Mooney head coach Matt Britton now has 150 career wins as a head coach.
The loss ends the Bulldogs' season at 14-2-4 overall for the Northeast 8 Conference champions.
With the win, Mooney improves to 14-3-1 and will advance to the regional semifinal against Chagrin Falls on Wednesday, Oct. 29 in Ravenna.
